Eddie Rickenbaker was a World War One combat flying ace.
I'm currently working with a guy who used to work with Rickenbacker at Eastern Airlines.
He said Eddie once told them he wasn't worried about pennies in his cost-accounting to make flying profitable ... he was worried about the mills!
He was America's top ace but doesn't break into the top 100 WWI aces. We got into the war late (Rickenbacker didn't get into the air in WWI until the spring of 1918).
Rickenbacker commanded the famous "Hat in the Ring' squadron (the 94th Aero).
Before the war, Rickenbacker drove race cars and was in a few Indy 500s.

You must have heard some interesting stories.
I have the leather helmet but still need some googles. Since I don’t have a plane my headphones I use for music works just fine.
I had Midas muffler and a matching hat. I wonder if Midas still sells them.
