For those who know little history, todays battle with ISIS in the Middle East may seem new and unprecedented. It is not.
In a.d. 622, Mohammed set out from Medina to conquer the whole Christian world for Allah by force of arms. Within a hundred years, his successors had occupied and pillaged every Christian capital of the Middle East, from Antioch through North Africa (home of Saint Augustine) and Spain. All that remained outside Allahs reign was the northern arc from Southern France to Constantinople.
What we are seeing in 2014 has a history of more than 1,300 years a very bloody, terror-ridden history. Except that today the struggle is far, far more secular than religious a war over political institutions and systems of law, with almost no public argument over religious doctrine.

Edward Gibbon, in The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (177678), describes how tall Islamic minarets could have been seen in Oxford before his birth, and the accents in its markets would have been Arabic: The interpretation of the Koran would now be taught in the schools of Oxford, and her pulpits might demonstrate to a circumcised people the sanctity and truth of the revelation of Mahomet.
Gibbon was writing about the decisive battle of Poitiers in a.d. 732, when at last a Christian leader, Charles Martel (Charles the Hammer), drove back the Muslims from their high-water mark in Western Europe with such force that they went reeling backwards into Spain. From there, it took Spain another 750 years until 1492 to drive Islamic armies back into North Africa, whence they had invaded. Even so, the Islamic terror bombers who just a few years ago killed more than a hundred commuters in Madrid did so

As INDIVIDUALS and with the grace of our good Lord we can overcome our sins and live the life that God wants us to live.
We just did The Feast of Fatima on Sunday.
How many are there?
There is a woeful ignorance of history. Westerners generally have no knowledge of the Battles of Lepanto, Malta and Vienna, their pivotal significance and the effect they had on the development of Western civilization. Europeans once understood that Islamic culture was not compatible with the values, practices and customs of the West. That very painful lesson will be relearned only with much suffering and bloodshed.
The West is experiencing Lepanto and Vienna Reprised right now. Only this time the Empire is headed by an ally of the Turks and Saracens and the West is suffused with the rapidly breeding Enemy. And the Holy Father is not yet aroused to the battle.
RE: The West is experiencing Lepanto and Vienna Reprised right now.
This is not like Vienna or Lepanto. In the former, Muslims amassed an army from WITHOUT.
Today, The West is being infiltrated FROM WITHIN, at ALL LEVELS OF SOCIETY, from commerce to industry to the GOVERNMENT ITSELF.
And here’s the other difference — today, most westerners are too feeble and cowardly to do anything about it.
You only read the first part of the comment.
Interesting.
I’m gonna go have a cup of coffee and finish reading.
I’m on Page 3.
Today, people seem to think (as does my sister) that Islam is simply a more colorful outgrowth of Christianity and Judaism. Deeply ignorant of history these people expect Muslims to embrace Western secular values and when this does not happen it is blamed on the Crusades, western imperialism and poverty. I forward articles such as this to my sister in the hope she will someday come around.
What a fascinating and engaging read.
Still, I flip with anger everytime a skilled writer brings up 911 and this author gives it historical context, in a concise, descriptive manner.
What a great read and this, for me, is the money line:
“... We do not insist on presenting better arguments in recognition of the inalienable rights to human liberty that our totalitarian opponents deny. ”
For that we would need to invoke Christ as God, or through Him the founding fathers.
The Muslims insist this is a God vs. God war. We are not willing to express or accept it.
Then as now, capitalism and therefore technology were the trump card. Galley Slaves for ship propulsion! So Ancient.
But the war today is still asymmetric. Until they get population superiority of say 3 to 1. Control of WMDs will be essential.
Who is this Christ you speak of?
Get back to me when he walks on water...
