LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) LA football fans have been waiting nearly 20 years for a team to call their own.
LA is the second largest TV market, host to plenty of baseball, basketball and hockey franchises, not to mention college teams. But the idea of a pro football team in this area has been nothing more than rumor for decades.
According to a report, one or two NFL teams are on the way, fairly soon.
As the 20th anniversary of the NFLs departure from Los Angeles, the NFL seems closer than ever to returning, said the report. Per a league source, the current plan is that the NFL will send one or two teams back to Los Angeles within the next 12 to 24 months.
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is also buzzing about NFL in Los Angeles. He told ESPN in July that he believes there will not just be one team, but two teams within the next 2-3 years and that the NFL will return to downtown Los Angeles.
Los Angeles has several locations that would be desirable for would-be franchise movers. The three proposed sites are Chavez Ravine next to Dodgers Stadium, AEGs downtown LA next to Staples Center and Stan Kroenkes Hollywood Park. Ed Roskis stadium proposal in the City of Industry is not a viable destination, the report said.
Likely candidates for relocation are the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams.
On Oct 3, 101 ESPN reported that Stan Kroenkes St. Louis Rams was close to making the decision to relocate his team back to Los Angeles.
The Rose Bowl or Los Angeles Coliseum could be used as a temporary home until a new stadium is completed.
There have been rumors that San Antonio would be in the mix for a team as well.
The Los Angeles Loons
The Orange County Crappers
The West Hollywood Weirdos
the possibilities are mind boogling. think of the logos!
The fact that the Rams were divisional champs just because every other team in that division sucked much worse isn't a huge accolade.
This is the *Rams* we're talking about. Not some legendary football team that often reached the pinnacle of greatness. When they finally got sold to St. Louis in exchange for used soccer equipment, most of Los Angeles was happy to see them go.
Why would a team be viable now, when they left in the 1st place?
Why downtown locations, like the coliseum stuck in the middle of an inner city high crime district?
Wouldn’t suburban locations be better? Why did they leave Anaheim? (Anaheim is the 2nd oldest baseball park, now.....after Chavez ravine, without major renovations)
The Coliseum and the Rose Bowl are ancient. Hollywood Park would be a good location for a brand new park. Likewise City of Industry, serving the Inland Empire better.
Driving into the sh!thole of central Lost Angeles makes no sense to me.
There have been proposals for a stadium in Carson, north of Long Beach. None of them are good if it means we lose the Chargers, however, San Diego is still a red region overall, and the taxpayers aren’t willing to pony up $2B in corporate welfare for the Spanos family to have a Jerry Jones-like monument to themselves.
Dont be surprised if it’s the Bucs. The Glazers have connections to LA, Raymond James Stadium is 20 years old already and is in “need” of upgrading and the Glazers are wearing out their welcome with crappy coaching decisions and bad teams.
I used to be an LA Rams fan. They come back they can be called the LA Vatos.
Within the US but you forget there are large markets outside the US that could be used for leverage. As well if an actual move is made that vacates at least one city. It is almost like a domino effect. In the case of cities that lost teams (Baltimore, Cleveland, St Louis) they quickly regained them. Well maybe Baltimore took a while. Anyway Toronto, Mexico City and even London England could be used for blackmail once LA is filled.
Me too. They played in Balboa Stadium where my High School also played. I loved Lance Alworth, Tobin Rote, Jack Kemp, etc.
What?
Apparently not, some guy was just arrested for urinating on it.
