Report: 1 or 2 NFL Teams Will Relocate To Los Angeles In 2015 or ’16

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) LA football fans have been waiting nearly 20 years for a team to call their own.

LA is the second largest TV market, host to plenty of baseball, basketball and hockey franchises, not to mention college teams. But the idea of a pro football team in this area has been nothing more than rumor for decades.

According to a report, one or two NFL teams are on the way, “fairly soon.”

“As the 20th anniversary of the NFL’s departure from Los Angeles, the NFL seems closer than ever to returning,” said the report. “Per a league source, the current plan is that the NFL will send one or two teams back to Los Angeles within the next 12 to 24 months.”

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is also buzzing about NFL in Los Angeles. He told ESPN in July that he believes there will not just be one team, but two teams within the next 2-3 years and that the NFL will return to downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles has several locations that would be desirable for would-be franchise movers. The three proposed sites are Chavez Ravine next to Dodgers Stadium, AEG’s downtown LA next to Staples Center and Stan Kroenke’s Hollywood Park. Ed Roski’s stadium proposal in the City of Industry is not a “viable destination,” the report said.

Likely candidates for relocation are the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams.

On Oct 3, 101 ESPN reported that Stan Kroenke’s St. Louis Rams was close to making the decision to relocate his team back to Los Angeles.

The Rose Bowl or Los Angeles Coliseum could be used as a temporary home until a new stadium is completed.

What will those “new” LA franchises have to pay the other owners to enter this new territory? Word is over $1 billion dollars. That ain't cheap boys

You do know that the Rams used to play in Southern California — don’t you?

Of course.

And the Cardinals used to play in St. Louis.

And the Colts used to play in Baltimore.

And the Ravens used to play in Cleaveland.

All of those moved before the country completely lost it's mind. It was not too long, after all, that the Washington DC football team was still called the Redskins.

But Political Correctness no runs the NFL. Any move will be evaluated through a racial lens.

And moving Michael Brown's Favorite Team 2000 miles is just not going to happen.

The NFL is expected to give the NHL's Buffalo Sabres owner (and unrepentant Fracker) Terry Pegula their formal approval for purchase of the Buffalo Bills during a meeting this Wednesday. With his various investments in the community & a prohibitive stadium lease, it's extremely doubtful that the Bills would be one of these teams on the move; whether any Environmental wacko's will be protesting outside the League meetings this week remains to be seen…

Actually, that might be kind of funny.

I think Dan Snyder should leak a fake story that he is thinking about moving the team to LA. The rumor alone would cause a significant number of heads to explode in California; not to mention the stupid things sports journalists would write and say about it.

Two brand spanking new beautiful stadiums. One in the Bronx, one in Queens. Maybe two teams should go there.

Please.. don’t let it be the Raiders. When they moved to L.A., their fans wouldn’t shut the $%^& up about it for years. I swear, there could be riots in Oakland if they moved again.

On the other hand, when they moved to L.A. in 1982, they had a much better team. They had won a couple Super Bowls and had been in the playoffs almost every year in the '70s. Yes, they still have a fan base-- the so-called Raider Nation-- but most of those folks don't live in Oakland proper anymore. They're spread out and dispirited. A move to L.A. now would result in a whimper not a bang.

Honestly, now, they were LOCATED in L.A., but did they actually play football while they were there?

Okay, maybe one season...

Oh goodie. Instead of footing the bill for one billion-plus dollar stadium the LA taxpayers will have to pay for two.

"... You do know that the Rams used to play in Southern California — don’t you?"

"Play" is a matter of opinion with the old Los Angeles Rams.

They were 'good' only one year (1979) and that was largely because of a fluke.

I can't even stand to see their team logo and helmet graphic. Provokes instant disgust.

Bring back the LA Dons.

I love the Rose Bowl and LA Coliseum, massive structures, classically built, with great histories. I know, perhaps a little outdated, and maybe a bit rat-infested, but classic “Coliseums” of the USA. Unfortunately, people don’t actually go to football games to watch, they go to shmooze clients and go inside to the club seats to check how their fantasy teams are doing on the monitors next to the indoor bar where you can buy a $12 beer.

So instead, they’ll build some $2B soulless structure with 4 giant TV screens, and a hulking hideous structure of luxury boxes taking up one side.

They were pretty good in ‘89 with Jim (don’t call him Chris) Everett and Flipper Anderson. At least they had the Giants’ number.

But why would the Chargers want to trade San Diego for Los Angeles?

For that matter, why would anybody? :)

Exactly.

San Diego is the one part of southern California I think I could tolerate living.

Mexicans don’t like football.

Wrong. Steelers games are broadcast on radio in Mexico. They are the 2nd. most popular team behind the Cowboys.

Steelers translates "Los Hombres de Acierno".

'Til the 49ers got ahold of them in the playoffs. :-)

Old Stadium. Then NFL owners are using LA to get new facilities built.
