I believe that’s “My friends and I...”
And if you go to Italy, don’t waste too much time in Venice. The canals are filthy and smell. Head to the Lake District around Stresa or Lake Como. BEAUTIFUL and no crowds (at least in 1989).

With Venice, its good to spend the night there. Most of the tourists are there for a day. They arrive in the morning and leave late afternoon. In the evening, its mostly locals. I had a wonderful dinner at some small cafe on a back ally. The menu was only in Italian, and all the people there were locals.

I’ve been to Venice 3 times in 18 months...it’s NOT filthy and it doesn’t smell....and it’s fabulous even at night!!

I disagree. I honestly thought I would hate Venice, but I loved the place. Just don't stay in the touristy area near St. Mark's Square or right next to the Rialto Bridge. Find a hotel or apartment in a neighborhood where Venetians actually live like Cannaregio or Castello, and enjoy the food, wine, and people. Also, I have three important rules for dining in Venice (or any city in Italy): Do not eat at anyplace that advertises a tourist menu; has someone standing out front trying to woo you in to the place; or has a plastic case out front with fake food.
