Just still pumped. Yesterday I got a ride in this plane ... and got to fly it for about 15 minutes. My first time piloting anything. This was really cool!

Looks like a giant Piper Cherokee with a Cub tail and canopy. Does it have a fixed pitch prop?

Yes.... I’m pretty sure. The owner is a friend of mine. He took us up to 3,000 feet and said “its all yours, be gentle”. I was really surprised how “touchy” it is. But had a BLAST! He has spent around 90k restoring etc.

Is that an old acoustical stall horn I see on the cowling? That sure is one whole lotta lift to thrust airplane!

"The owner is a friend of mine."
Use em or lose em, is my brother in law's motto. Owning a plane brings you a lot of friends. It does however make you very unpopular with the wives and accountant.

Yes, that’s fixed pitch. That sure is one pretty restoration job. Metal cowling, fabric fuselage, metal wings, fabric tail surfaces.

Yeah it is.... actually its wooden wings with thin sheet metal covering the wings. (That part I know). Inside is as close to original as can be.

Very cool! I took the wife and kid to the WASP museum in Sweetwater, TX a couple of months ago. It’s in a hangar and contains a PT-19 and an open cockpit biplane trainer that I can’t remember the name of. They tell me that neither are owned by the museum, and that both are regularly flown by their owner (one was gone the day I took the girls). If you happen to be driving through Texas on I-20, I highly recommend that you stop and see the WASP museum- it’s a highlight for any patriot, airplane lover, or even lover of strong women!

Soooooo cool! I want to go!

That must have been a blast.
As kids, just a few years after WWII, we used to look forward to visits to the airport where we were able to climb in the cockpit of a T-6 "Texas Trainer" and pretend to fly that stripped down model. It was similar to the plane you flew but totally not airworthy. :o)

It looks like it has the Ranger inverted 6 cylinder engine.
To: Parley Baer
Yes... I know he told me it had an inverted engine and he rolled it over manually several times to make certain there was no oil in the cylinders.

I took about 50 pictures..... way to many to post here. But yeah... it was really really cool! Fly a little with the canopy open... reach back and close it.. or whatever. We cruised at about 95mph. Very little wind. A perfect afternoon.
