I don't mean to suggest mac is without problems, and truth be told I've never owned one, but I bought a Windows 8 PC about 18 months ago and right after the Norton anti virus expired, I was so choked with ad ware I couldn't use the thing.

I renewed Norton, which helped, but it's still not good. I've actually taken to using my Windows 2000 desktop, which works fine for my purposes. But, it shouldn't be like that.

But how is that a Win 8 problem? I'm not sure it's even a Norton issue.
You need ad blocking SW like Adblock Plus (free) and for your UI, try Classic Shell (free).

Run Malwarebytes and clean that thing up.

You get a Linux LiveDisc (or USB) and you will find NO adware and stuff
