Christina Briggs, 26, from Wigan, says she hates her large size
But she wants help from the government to lose weight She's on benefits and can only afford to buy junk food and takeaways
She said being fat is not her 'fault' as 'healthy food is too expensive'

An obese mother-of-two who lives on benefits says she needs more of taxpayers' money to overhaul her unhealthy lifestyle.

Christina Briggs, 26, from Wigan, says she hates being 25 stone but she can't do anything about it because she can only afford junk food. Meanwhile, exercise is out of the question because she doesn't have the funds to join a gym.

The single mother told Closer Magazine: 'It's not easy being overweight and on benefits. If I was well off, I'd be able to buy fresh food and afford a gym membership.

'I tried swimming but it cost £22 a month and it meant I had to cut back on my favourite pizza and Chinese takeaways.'

Unemployed Christina gets £20,000 in benefits a year and lives in a council house with her two children by different fathers, Helena, 10, and Robert, two.

She left school as a teenager after falling pregnant with her daughter following a one night stand....

...says she hates her large size But...

Context is everything, punctuation separates us from the animals and, you have to admit, that quote is damn funny, bullets or not.

But the story itself sickens me.

You don’t need to go to a gym to lose weight. Go for a walk. It’s free.
"'I tried swimming but it cost £22 a month and it meant I had to cut back on my favourite pizza and Chinese takeaways."

I guess you missed the funniest part.

Mental deficients everywhere actually think what they say makes sense!

I am type II as well....

I control my blood sugar by eating the right foods and right potions...

I took myself off janumet six months ago...i started getting some serious side effects from long term use.....I watch my blood sugar reading closely and found it only effected it about five points when I stopped taking it...

Plus I feel about 100 x better not taking it...

I doubt if she even knows anymore.

I taught a “resume writing, application and job-seeking” class so it depended on the week. We (the state) sent them to college and then they “couldn’t find a job” in a state with 2% unemployment.

When you talk about eating a lot just to maintain that weight that is not exactly true. I lost 150 lbs over the last couple of years and it is so easy to rack up calories. Take the cookies at Starbucks for instance 300 calories a pop let’s say you have 2two of those or a bBig Mac that would mean that you are going to have to walk about
An hour just to burn it off. Then take the Salad Bar at lets say Jason’s Deli you can easily rack up a 500 calorie salad if you are not careful . Her caloric intake should be about 1200 to 2000 calories a day depending on her age it is easier said than done but it can be done but she does have a point about the cost of healthy food the cost of a grapefruit is exceeding 150 a grapefruit smoked salmon is going for 8.99 for 4,ounces and yes with my diet I can replace both of those items with bananas and eggs but the chicken and fish is going to cost some bucks.

Thanks for the info and insight.

I weighed 135-140 lbs for years and then after my 50th birthday I started gaining. It’s easier said than done to trim down.

Surprised that no one has brought up the kids - why should someone that can’t support herself be having children?

We can’t stop them, it seems - but there used to be a stigma against having children out of wedlock. I guess that the cultural change that prevents us from criticizing this (and thus exponentially increasing the number of people on public assistance) has allowed us to reap what we have sowed.

Depends on what you buy if I look at a bag of chips I will gain 20 lbs but last week I was at Shop Rite and the Grapefruit was 1.50 a grapefruit and the Smoked Salmon was 8.99 for 4 ounces good stuff anyway the Rotessierr Chicken was 5 dollars and you can get 3 or 4 meals out of one of those but I sympathize with her.
