I know it may be insane, but I'm thinking of moving to Colorado, Boulder specifically. Do any of you live there and do you think it's possible for a 62-year-old single female Conservative to live happily there? My reasons are that I hear it's beautiful, closer to my family in Los Angeles (but I don't want to live in Calif), has seasons and is a place I haven't lived before. I want to start over in a new place. Unfortunately it's a nest of libs, but where isn't? Just wondering - SOMEONE out there in Freeperland must live there! Thanks in advance for your thoughts and info.
IF I do end up there I WILL be a Conservative warrior. But of course, as a counselor you have to be pretty low-key about your politics - it’s a leftie bleeding heart profession by and large. But I’m a Compassionate Conservative who will try to set the delusional lefties straight.
LOL!! Well I need a new start in an interesting, culturally-stimulating place with seasons and a good number of single conservative men. I guess that would probable eliminate Boulder, actually.
So do you work for a hospital still? I was an MT for 26 years until the hospital decided to have Dictaphone/Nuance take over transcription duties. Nuance said they’d hire us all but on a production basis, so our checks would probably be cut in half. Speech recognition and offshoring both contributed to killing off a great occupation, IMO.
I’m back in school for coding/billing now and may continue on for a RHIT certificate. However, at my age (61 next week) I’m not holding out much hope of actually getting a job. I’m also working on expanding my craft business on Etsy for extra money in my old age.
Thanks for the vote of confidence - I tend to agree with you. If you know yourself and are solid in your beliefs and values, you should be able to live anywhere.
I do remember Alamosa, however.....dat’s the town that has the colonoscopy place that got busted for not cleaning the “tubes” before shoving ‘em in the next customer....
Move to Colorado Springs instead. Liberals haven’t taken over yet and we need more conservatives.
Consider Park City, UT
Well I’m late to this thread, but have to chime in. We just moved from Golden CO to San Juan Capistrano in Southern Orange county a conservative area, due to family, health and weather.
Consider Golden as a CO alternative. Small town feel, but short light rail ride to Broncos, downtown. We used to ride bicycles downhill to Denver and light rail back to Golden.
Price per square foot is similar, around $310 for CA and CO. We think cost of living will be similar overall.
Wow! Thanks - I’d like that! I’ve never shot a gun but lately, with this ISIS crap, I’ve seriously been thinking of buying a gun.
I’ll look into it! It’s good? And conservative?
Ok - I’ll look into it - I definitely have some great information here and will use it as I start researching and applying for jobs.
I’ve taught a great many folks how to shoot.
I’ll supply the gun(s), the ammo, and I’ll pay the range fee for all first time FRiends who’ll come with me.
It’s a small range, though. Only five shooting bays.
I’ve NEVER taken someone to go shooting who’s said afterwords, “Man! That just SUCKED! I’m NEVER doing that again!!”
The last lady was from New York City (A Girlfriend of a buddy of mine from work). Before we got into the range area, she said, “I hate guns. I don’t think anyone should have them.”
Yeah.
I fixed her.
She had a great time with my old Beretta 92FS.
Now, bear in mind that the only, “Official Certified,” firearms training I’ve had was from Navy boot camp, and my concealed carry class. But, it’s pretty basic. Safety is always the first thing I think about.
I really should go and get NRA certified, though.
Sounds like fun (man - I NEVER thought I’d say that -I’m an ex-Berkeley girl). If I do get out there I’ll definitely take you up on your generous offer! :)
I live in Denver and went to CU. Believe me, there is a decent conservative side. The beauty alone is worth it. Plus, it’s the working libs who will serve you some great coffee, craft beers, wines, and great food. You don’t have to actually talk to any of these punks unless you order something or ask for some tips on hiking trails. Be wary of the jerk libs on bikes, though. They push their ‘entitlement’ mindset when it comes to owning crosswalks and state highways... However, the fun part is simply honking at them as you pass. They’ll yell and flip the bird or try to intimidate you with their cammy phones - but it’s the giggles and bits of good cheer that which makes it really, really fun in doing so. Just kidding. Sort of. Most folks are nice and it’s actually the young, rich conservative college kids who will throw attitude.
No, move to the Castle Rock area in Douglas County south of Denver or to Colorado Springs.
It sounds wonderful - I’m sure I’ll find a spot there somewhere!
I didn’t know you lived here in Colorado; You’re one of my favorite Freepers! Need to buy you a beer or five!
No, I was born in Denver and was in the hospital for three months until I was adopted. I’ve never lived there, otherwise, although I used to go there for training frequently when I was a veteran’s career counselor. Like it but the air is too thin.
