By preventing more victims, because if a football player knows his career is over upon the first serious act of criminality, he might act better. If he doesn’t, than the NFL will eventually filter out bad actors and the game might return to respectability.
Don’t blame liberals for what they are doing to the NFL. The league and your personal tolerance of this is what is fueling the ability of liberals to do this. If football players were the kind of people that kids could look up to, the liberals could not touch the league.
