As a kid, I was mesmerized by how fast he would add up the columns of numbers he scribbled on a brown paper bag, with a pencil he kept behind his ear, to get his total.....heaven forbid he was *off* by a penny....b/c mom would have caught it! Thanks.
At the onset of chain groceries like A&P and Finest, I guess were his demise....kinda like the milkman and breadman. Good memories.
