There was absolutely no way to fight her cancer and work full time and in the end, as is the case in so many of these battles, she lost after 18 months anyways. As rough as it sounds, I’m not sure I can fault Dr. Visnich for this. Carol is in a fight for her life. She can collect unemployment benefits while she puts her affairs in order and wages her battle as she sees fit.
Nope. Unemployment Insurance (UI) requires that one be “able and available” to work. That’s why students and the sick can’t get it.
I agree. It’s not fair to him to have to pay 2 people to do her job. And he’s a physician himself. He knows what the course of the disease looks like better than a lay person might, and he certainly understands the pharmacology, which he addressed in his letter. I’m also hard-pressed to believe that he wrote it without consulting with an attorney.
If he, however, wrote it without legal advice, then he will be awarded the jackass prize in court.
