This event is a X1.6. the carrington event in the 1800’s was rated X40. The one that took out the power in Quebec in the 1980’s was rated X15. While big, most likely not big enough to do anything except make a spectacular northern lights display.

The problem is that the Magnetic Field has weak very considerable since both of those events.
