I think you should tell him that finding a dog is a very personal spiritual quest which only the future owner can accomplish.
Also, the care of the dog is a personal, spiritual activity for which the owner should be entirely responsible except in life-and-death emergency situations.
(I have a bee in my bonnet over people’s always assuming I’ll take responsibility for their pets when they just can’t be bothered.)
I’m not going to puppy sit. He doesn’t like the idea of crating a dog while he is at work, so unless we join households, or he finds someone else, he runs the risk of having doggie mayhem occur on a daily basis. He just has no common sense...someone in his house has always been there to let the dogs out when he was at work. That ain’t the situation, these days.
