Gene Simmons not only thinks rock music is dead, it was “murdered” by the internet and the “entitled” Americans using it to steal music.
The KISS bassist, who is arguably one of the most successful living rock stars in the history of music, blames file sharing for the death of one of America's most beloved musical genres during a recent Esquire interview conducted by his son, Nick.

My Daughters has you tube videos of people from all over the world who are truly talented but will never see the inside of a studio. A good number of the local bands where I am at are very good yet no one outside of this area will ever hear of them.
I really like Cristina Gatti and I heard of her from you. Awhile back you posted some of her music as well as a cover of sweet child of mine by a older black lady who I don't recall. It was great.
BTW, I live near New Orleans and I have been casually watching to see if Cristina Gatti will come here soon. We would love her.

Back in the 80s if you heard a good decent song in a commercial, the first word out of your mouth was “sellout.” Now everyone is cashing in, because it’s harder to make money.

Yep, I read about Van Halen, their first album went through the roof, the boys went on tour, came home and Warner Bros. records said “Well done, and oh, by the way, you owe us a million dollars.” Nice.
Of course, they're not, but file sharing has been a reality in music since Napster back in 2002ish. It's the way things are and it doesn't make much sense to me for Simmons to cry about it - Metallica did a much better job of that a decade ago.
The other point I would make is: who do you blame if the public's taste in music has changed? Rock seemed to dominate the airwaves until about 1990 and then things changed - maybe not for the better, but they changed.
Almost everyone never actively sits down and just listens to music with a good home hi-fi. Music became this thing that you have on while you do something else, jog, do the dishes, drive. And through earbuds or computer speakers. So the popular music that is made reflects how most people listen to music, and good rocknroll suffered for that.
But there is great rock being made, and it is easier to find than ever. It just will never become popular.

I think it was murdered by club owners preferring to hire one cheap DJ instead of an expensive live band.
Recorded music is just a free commercial for your live performance. Think otherwise and you are in for a world of hurt. Problem is, nobody really wants live bands any more, so the opportunities to play and improve on stage are much less than they used to be.
The only thing Gene Simmons ever cared about was money. Screw him.
Steven Wilson is awesome - but people today lack the level of sophistication required to comprehend and appreciate his music. As you indicated, he appeared on the scene twenty years too late.

I went to a 38 special night ranger concert the other night. Three hours—one hit after another. A small venue, 3,000 seats. The place was rocking.
Where are the new versions of a good ole rock and roll band. They sure as hell aren’t on the rock charts. They moved over to country/rock. Too much rap influence on one side, and live show extravaganzas on the other.
It was murdered by the current generation of musicians.

Rock Acts Led Zep, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Queen, Skynyrd, Deep Purple,
Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers and more were all in their late teens, early twenties when they wrote an put out some of their best stuff. The recording equipment was primitive and the effects available very basic.
They had imagination and very creative musician skills, many of them learned them by playing and replaying old blues music on a 20.00 phonograph.
The young musicians of today have technology that wasn’t even thought of back then, but they lack imagination, their music has 0 creativity, no passion on any guitar solos, no harmonies.
If there was anything really good out there, it would get played. People are always looking,quality rises but it just isn’t there.
The musicians I listed didn’t get murdered, they just got old. But their work still fills the airways and head sets of the public, who is looking for something new, but not angry rap, or a sex starved nymph crawling across the stage(music?) they will listen to good new rock and the act will make money

Can’t say I have much sympathy for the Labels. For DECADES their media was PURE CRAP. Rather than spend 25 cents more for a much higher quality cassette, they went with the absolute worst. So people had to end up buying multiple copies of the same work, simply because they would get destroyed sitting in a car.

Rock isn't dead and it wasn't murdered. It entered the witness protection program.
Disguised with a fiddle player and songs about pickup trucks, rock is alive and well and hiding out on the modern country radio stations.
