Would a person from 1914 be able to reliably predict what technology would achieve by 2014?

Well, all it has to do is pass a “touring test” - which means that if you can’t tell from an e-mail conversation that it isn’t a human, it is intelligent. How hard could it be to program IBM’s “Watson” to imitate Jesse Jackson?

Seriously, the article posits that the quantum computer is “millions of times” faster than a regular computer. If I have my numbers right, computers have been getting ten times faster every decade - so we’re talking six decades worth of Moore’s Law computer speed improvement. Maybe not an “eon,” but . . .
