The notion that Islamists pose an actual military threat to the United States, of the nature Nazi Germany and USSR did, is beyond ludicrous.

We have the military capability, if we choose to exercise it, which I certainly hope we won’t, to kill every last Muslim, much less Islamist, on the planet.

These guys have NO military capabilities except those we hand them because of our own unwillingness to do what’s necessary to deal with them. They can’t build any but the simplest military hardware. The equipment they captured from our “allies” is not doubt deteriorating rapidly, and much of it will soon have degraded capabilities or be completely useless. Such equipment requires continuous maintenance. Even assuming they had the parts and expertise to maintain properly, they’re unlikely to do it.

The Islamist mentality of Insha’allah is utterly unsuited to the anal by the book routine necessary. The tank will work if Allah wills that it will work, so why go to all that effort?

Assuming they did have an effective land military, anybody got any suggestions as to how they’d get it here? It’s a really long swim, and the US Navy might have something to say to them on the way.

IOW, these guys are NOT a military threat, to us. They’re a real potential threat to some of our “allies,” but to the US they’re an irritant only. In theory if they get hold of some nukes and smuggle them in, they could take out a US city or two. But they simply don’t have, and have no way of getting, the capability to defeat us militarily. From a military perspective, all such an attack would accomplish is to cause the US to finally take the gloves off.

This analysis is assuming, BTW, that ISIS succeeds in its plan of taking over the entire Muslim world, which is of course itself extraordinarily unlikely. If only because the present rulers of that world like being the rulers, and object to demotion or death, which the spread of ISIS entails.

The Saudis would have something to say about that. They are inexorably linked with the USA via the 3 big American and Dutch Shell petroleum companies. The USA gives the three American petroleum companies beaucoup tax breaks for that very reason...our reliance on their petroleum/natural gas resources.

The AMERICANS (privateer oil companies, NO American government EVER involved) began that link in the 1920's and finally the King bought them out in 1982 so that the Saudis could finally own their own natural resources again.

The Saudis kicked bin Laden out of the KSA. They would do so to any terrorist who threatened their ONLY source of revenue. They have EVERY reason in the world to keep ISIS out of their country...and every other country over there. They need NO civil strife, wars or "conflicts" interfering with the flow. "The spice must FLOW." (Mu'a dib) Sorry, couldn't resist.

Also, the Saudis WILL run out of petroleum/natural gas one day. They have another 200 years of reserves but THAT will disappear one day. SO, they have to plan for life AFTER their God-given gift runs out.
