FULL TITLE: Michael Sam was dropped by the NFL because 'no one wants the distraction', claims Buffalo Bills star as gay football player tweets upbeat message
Michael Sam is no longer attached to an NFL team and none of them appear to want to pick him up because his sexual orientation causes too much distraction, claims a Buffalo Bills star.
Offensive lineman Eric Wood goes on, more specifically, to blame the media for focusing on the personal life of the NFL's first openly gay draft pick.
'Blame that on espn,' Wood tweeted in response to Sam's inability to find an NFL home. 'No one wants the distraction.'
Wood's comment came after sports commentator Ross Tucker publicly wondered on Twitter why 'Michael Sam performed much better than most expected and still isn't even on a practice squad?'

He prolly demanded to play center.
Now that’s funny!
LOL. The money and ratings would just roll in.
ESPN promote themselves incessantly but they still lack self-awareness.
They will never recognize, much less admit, that their rabid Northeastern liberalism created the media crush and may have cost their darling gay idol a job. Sam also appears to lack this recognition.
Yep. I don’t hear them offering a job to Sam either.
” Ross Tucker publicly wondered on Twitter why ‘Michael Sam performed much better than most expected and still isn’t even on a practice squad?’”
It’s because of his off field “practices”
If he had not acting like a a flaming homo, smooching and putting cake in the face of his boyfriend when he was selected, thereby enforcing every stereotype NFL fans feared, he might have been fine.
If he had turned down every TV interview and just said “Hey I just want to play football” he might have made it.
Yes, I wonder if espn is thinking about promoting the “first openly gay sideline reporter.” If not, I guess we can assume the distraction will have just be too much.
Could it be that he sucks....
LOL...
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
That is true of football and every other professional sport.
Look at the players that have been “forgiven” for huge transgressions.
But if they can play...all is well with the world. Evidently Sams really wasn’t all that great. Not enough to put up with the distraction.
The NFL discovered that Michael Sam sucks and when he reverses polarity, he blows.
LOL.
Remember what they call a dozen lesbians standing on
a grassy knoll?.............the LPGA. Right there accounts
for 12 hrs / day programming on the ESPNLGBT Network.
Ironically, the same reason Tim Tebow is now out of football.
Just shut up and play. Simple.
Of course, the NFL has been so degenerated in the past few years, it is not worth my time.
Tell it to Tim Tebow.
Ironically that player is probably right...all the media hoopla gave teams the chills over having to deal with the attention...so even though the media thought they were supporting Sam’s cause they ended up hurting his chances of actually making a roster
Had they simply just let the story die the day he was drafted he would have at least made the practice squad...he’s the only player cut this preseason who has had more than 2 sacks in pre-season play he definitely played well enough to at least make the practice squad or have another team pick him up

Tim isn’t playing but he’s doing football on tv for ESPN.
I suspect Michael Sam will do likewise.
ESPN didn't choose to make an open display of affection on national TV. (but they were hoping)
