In writing a biography about his father, Jay Paterno makes the point quickly that the book is not an attempt to canonize Joe Paterno: "I know all too well that he was human, an imperfect being." He also says that the book is for journalism students. "In a world where the pressure to be first often outweighs the responsibility to be right, I hope you always look in your heart and pursue the truth. It is the most solemn responsibility of freedom of the press. Realize your mistakes will have consequences for real people." Here is an excerpt of Paterno Legacy.
Well they hid Gricar’s body well, it’s been years and no sign of him. There was a rumor it was suicide because they found his laptop in the river near where he had been but no body.
The last opinion of the area was he just left, but he was about to retire and leave with the girlfriend on a long retirement travel plan. In the will she got the pension, and the daughter got the rest...if I remember correctly. There was police info that the home computer had researched how to dispose of a laptop and get rid of all info, and that is what happened, it was a work (DA) laptop.
A woman said she had seen him at the courthouse the day of the disappearance, but that was an hours drive from where the laptop was found, and he was last scene????
I agree on the bad guys got him, but who the bad guys are is the question. NO, I’m not thinking suicide because he had detailed retirement plans and travel and was the happiest he had been in years....there should have been a body if it was suicide, somewhere.
Oh and the Mini Cooper he had been driving was found in a parking lot near where the laptop was eventually found weeks later....odd.
Ever ask yourself why you so badly want FReepers to agree with you about Joe? Why are you obsessed with this dead man?
Gay pedophile Harvey Milk comes to mind.
Not just Paterno, but Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, Bill Parcells, Tom Landry, Bill Belichick, the list goes on and on. It's almost homoerotic the way these coaches are obsessed over by other men. I find it more than a little creepy. Football is just a game. Get a grip people.
Because he was innocent and hounded to his death by know-nothings???
I don’t worship any person, dead or alive. I detest the media and what they have done to an honorable man’s reputation and legacy.
For that, you can accuse me of whatever whenever, but it won’t make me stop getting the truth out. You can stand w/ louis freeh and his scam report. I’ll stand with Sue and Jay.
Sorry.
Amen.
I am not going to defend Joe Paterno although it seems from
what I know about him he was a conservative and moral person. Apparently he stuck his head in the sand big time.
Did he choose to reside in fantasy land during the latter
part of his life? Was he in denial and did he pretend that
if he ignored what happened it would go away?
Was there a time when something like this would happen and
only the perpetrator would pay the price? I kind of think
there was. We know that all kinds of child abuse has gone
on forever but only in the past several decades has society
decided to really do something about it. Was Paterno so
isolated in his football world that he failed to get with
the times? If so, then he deserves all the scorn he gets
and more.
But, I think about my own 89 yr old WWII combat wounded
and PhD father who spent a career working with youth in
the field of vocational agriculture. He is a dedicated
Christian who has dealt harshly with teachers who have
had affairs with their high school students. The world
has changed and I long ago noticed that pop has gradually
isolated himself from the sad realities that have evolved.
JoePa is human... he told the administration about Sandusky, but he didn’t follow through.
I’m curious as to how you arrived at terming this the “Penn State sex candal” instead of...
* The Jerry Sandusky sex scandal
* The Second Mile sex scandal
* The Central Mountain HS sex scandal
* The PA state/local child agencies sex scandal
See, I don’t think you read what Jay had to say, yet you commented on it with your whatever it was.
The truth will come out.
Jay is just full of excuses. He also feels entitled to sue Penn State just like all other Obama voters feel entitled to everything.
Jay is suing PSU like he (and Sue/Family and former players) is suing the ncaa in an effort to get freeh’s “report” into a court of law and refuted.
Mary Kay has the rights to Joe’s likeness. Freeh - and then the ncaa - destroyed that likeness under false claims.
If you didn’t know, Paul Kelly and Wick Sollers are their attorneys. Do some research on them and how they do in cases they take on.
Might the facts that he was in his 80s and had inoperable cancer had a little to do with his death?
Okay, I found Paterno’s quote. (See/Regarding my post#9 this thread). In Sports Illustrated’s June 10th 1974 issue, (Johnny Miller on the cover), In a story titled: ‘A Case In Point’, (page 88, right hand col.), regarding the complete mess that the NCAA had then, and had had for ongoing years, regarding their various scandals Saint Joe said this about the subject of NCAA cheating: “I’ve never blown the whistle on anyone yet and I never will”.......Well, well, well. Not gonna ‘speak up’ about anyone involved in a scandal that pales in comparison to child rape huh Joe? Not gonna ‘speak’ up about anyone involved in NCAA messes that pale in comparison to child molestation huh Joe? The fact that Joe would not ‘speak up’ about minor, (Compared to child rape), NCAA scandals tells it all. Nope. He was not gonna say a word about his child rapist pal Sandusky. Case Closed on saint Joe.
JoePa knew, or should have know what was going on and did nothing. At best, he was guilty of gross negligence.
If Penn State is such an evil institution as you contend, why did they Wise Latina Joe Paterno work there and lend his sterling reputation to them for 30+ years? Doesn’t make sense. But I applaud you for sticking up for Joe Paterno, when he has been falsely accused, much like O.J. Simpson.
Please try again when you are sober!
I am sober as a judge. Sorry to bring reality to you.
Joe worked at PSU from 1949 to 2011. I think that’s longer than 30 years.
If this represents your level of knowledge of this scandal, maybe you should be doing more reading and less typing.
