The game, between the University of Central Florida and Pennsylvania State University drew 55,000, which seems amazing for a country where American football is unknown. And for some reason, the crowd, according to a news article, was heavily pro-Penn State, which came from behind to win on a last-second field goal.
Probably 15-20K traveled from PSU to the game. Maybe 3-4K for UCF. Lots of PSU alums in the UK traveled to Dublin I’m sure though.
Also, with PSUers spending more money in town, I’m sure it didn’t take much to get the local attendees on their side.
Ironic that UCF is actually the second largest school in the US (by enrollment). It’s shedding its image of being a commuter school and is very much a growing institution while becoming a destination campus in FL like Gainesville or Trailerhassee.
