Mike had 6 tackles to lead the team, though it might not been against 1st string offensive linemen that was as good as could have been asked for. I think he did better than was expected.

In the end though, apparently what doomed him was that he didn't make any impact on special teams, and if you're a projected 2nd stringer, you'd better at least better make an impact on special teams, or else there is no justification for keeping him on the squad.

Yep, you have to earn your keep. In college Sam didn’t have to hustle on special teems. The good ones like special teams too.
