It seems everyone has an opinion about the Calgary radio stations choice to adopt the new QuickHitz editing program, writes G&B writer Vanessa Azzoli.
We certainly cant forget the rock songs we love (and sometimes love to hate) that need to be listened to in their full length in order to be awesome. Ive put together a list of some of my favourites. There are some obvious choices on here I think every person I asked said Stairway to Heaven.
But, there are some on here that I think most of us forgot about. What are your favourite lengthy rock tunes?

“Supper’s Ready” by Genesis
You just killed the thread.
You stole my thunder with Super’s Ready. So here are the rest of the Genesis songs:
Stagnation
The Knife
The Musical Box
Return of the Giant Hogweed
The Fountain of Salmacis
Twilight Alehouse
The Battle of Epping Forest
Dancing With the Moonlit Knight
In the Cage
Colony of Slippermen
Squonk
Ripples
Eleventh Earl of Mar
One For the Vine
In that Quiet Earth
Dukes Travels/Dukes End
Whipping Post and Mountain Jam by the Allman Bros.
I also thought Rick Wakeman’s Journey to the Center of the Earth would be a contender.
BTW, the only two albums I bought twice because I wore the first one out were:
Wakeman - Six wives of henry the 8th
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Yeah. Don’t ask...
Santana - Black Magic Woman (the longer the version the better)
IRON BUTTERFLY - IN A GADDA DA VIDA - 1968
I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home) - Grand Funk Railroad.
Sugar Magnolia - The Grateful Dead
(There must a live version that has a very long jam, man)
Heck, just about all post-Syd Floyd.
Hey, I downloaded a video off torrent of a band called “Brit FLoyd”. It’s a PF tribute band that does a virtual replica of the Pulse concert. It is in HD and though the light show is slightly simpler than the original (e.g. not as many lights around the circular screen part), it is far more technically interesting.
And the musicianship and quality of the photography is much better, believe it or not. I might even like it more than the pulse DVD. Did I say that out loud?!
And you are not violating any copywrites downloading it. They want you to download it.
I remember when top-40 DJ’s played inagodadavida so they could take a pi$$.
Gilmour’s “Live in Gdansk” version of Echoes was great. So glad he had one last chance to play with Rick Wright.
Yep. I wore the second one out and had to buy a second copy.
Quadrophenia - The Who (both sides)
Jethro Tull, Thick as a Brick, the whole album is actually one long piece. And it rules!
A Quick One (While He’s Away)
Or go out back and have a few tokes.
Quadrophenia - The Who (both sides)
Quadrophenia was, in my opinion, The Who’s Apex.
Sugar Magnolia into I Know You Rider into Not Fade Away back into Sugar Magnolia. Bound to be out there somewhere at about 35 minutes.
Layla and Other Love Songs - Derek and The Dominoes
if I had to pick one song from it, I’d pick:
Why Does Love Got to be So Sad
