By this point, you have made up your own mind, as so many of us have. You are from one of two camps. One is the "hasn't Pete suffered enough? The other is the "Pete got exactly what he deserved"
I occupy the former.

Is the HOF about great men or about great baseball athletes?
Not a chance. Ethics matter!
"Kill one to terrorize ten thousand", aka, keep him out as an example to everybody else, imo.
Otherwise, split the difference, as others have suggested, and let his induction be posthumous.
Yes. Posthumously would be more appropriate. But that should also apply to any other player who does not possess good character.
See Post 31.
Have you seen the doc “4192”? Great entertainment and chronicles his achievements.
Or profit from the induction. I totally agree.
If only MLB had made Pete retire and play a few seasons of basketball, he'd be in the HOF now.
Jordan then decided to play minor league baseball in the White Sox organization, even though he would've had trouble hitting a beach ball, yet alone a baseball. In 102 games with the Barons, Jordan had a .202 average along with 3 homers, 51 RBI, 30 stolen bases, 114 strikeouts, and a .555 OPS.
I really think comparing Pete Rose to the Unibomber verges on the hysterical.
“I understand he only bet on his team. I see no conflict of interest.”
I agree with that too, and so does my friend who is quite the “score-keeper” in life, if you know what I mean.
If the bosses gamble on races, I bet that they bet on Baseball too.
Baseball looks just plain stupid. There is gambling in almost every state, many states have casinos with sport books. Many states have lotteries
Knowing Charlie Hustle, he was all about winning and the Reds were red with his Blood and sweat. He was always trying to win and Pete would never bet against the Reds.
I love people who are so sanctimonious here. They didn’t play for half their adult life like Pete, they didn’t play hurt, they didn’t do anything but sit on their recliner and watch Pete rack up the records HE EARNED.
The fact he isn’t in this HALL of FAME means its a HALL of SHAME, missing one of its brightest stars.
Sports teams are owned by some shady people, look at Sterling, and I remember Steinbrenner was in trouble with the law and was suspended by baseball.
No Pete never took a dive, he wouldn’t do that, if you think he did you never competed where winning was everything you ever wanted.
Pete deserves his due. Anyone with an ounce of Judgement would say he has served his sentence for lying. But with the cast of Baseball crooks he is a minor leaguer compared to them that have sat in power over him.
He is lying that he bet on his team “every night.” If the bookmakers got wind, and they would, that he was, they would not take his action. Why, because if the Reds were an above average team, the bookmakers would lose, and they are not in the business of losing.
Betting on your team to win means you're probably going to overuse your pitching staff to win games.
It is no longer about Pete Rose. It is about the people and forces that control the Hall of Fame.
Political Correctness " Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Is there a list of conditions for admission into the Hall of Fame?
I think that those inducted should be a melding of great men and great athletes. To be an abject failure in either catagory should be a disqualifier.
You sound like a child who not fully realizing the ramifications of their behavior will cry out “Let Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame already”. Come on, Please. What sort of rationale is that? Baseball is first and foremost about integrity and while for the most part Baseball and all the other professional sports leagues hardly instill the sense of morality into the sport, being moral in any consistent way. Nut I’m talking about the most important aspect of baseball is not the hits, RBI’s and the entire slew of statistics as the life blood of any professional sport. Integrity, morality, sportsman like conduct must accompany, be a a part of a player’s persona if he ever wants to be considered among the best. You can not separate being a sportsman without sportsmanlike persona, which means play ball, work hard, and treat the game with the greatest reverence in the world. If someone impugns baseball, does things that dilutes the physical prowess and accomplishment that is the lifeblood of the gsme, the in which the physical prowess is the entire point of being a player but done so with dignity, pride and in anir of professional conduct. Pete Rose may be one of baseball’s greatest players from a physical standpoint but not from a moral one. To be enshrined into Baseball’s Hall of Fame requires both professional behavioor as well as proper civilized behavior.
From the Baseball Hall of Fame:
"Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played."
Wouldn't you say that Rose, even if eligible, strikes out completely in the integrity and character department? He broke baseball's cardinal rule. He's lied repeatedly and continues to lie about his involvement in betting. He admits to using PEDs during his playing days, although we're only talking about Greenies.
“He is lying that he bet on his team every night. If the bookmakers got wind, and they would, that he was, they would not take his action. Why, because if the Reds were an above average team, the bookmakers would lose, and they are not in the business of losing.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It doesn’t work like that. Sports betting is not a simple matter of “pick a team, and double your money if you win”. If a team is favored, you get less than double, significantly less if they are heavy favorites.
And bookies adjust the spreads if the action goes too far one way. In the long run, they always make money. It’s the second oldest profession.
