stringent state environmental regulations hampering manufacturing and construction.

The reason home prices are skyrocketing is because zoning restrictions (lot sizes and so on) have made building new homes prohibitively expensive.

Meanwhile decent homes here start at just over $100,000, very nice ones at $250,000 and near-mansions at $500,000 or so.

There’s plenty of large houses in SoCal. My realtor friends sell them for cash these days to a largely Chinese clientele.
