Concealed, well that means concealed.

I always thought most states had it backwards. You should not need a permit for concealed carry, but you should need a permit for open carry (except for hunting, of course).

The constitution is your permit for open carry. Or is suppose to be.

You don’t need a permit to hunt in your state?

The open-carry should come with the hunting license.

Historically, concealed carry belied ill intent: honest men carried openly as being armed was presumed legitimate, while criminals would be the ones wishing to surprise others with firepower. Note too that at the time, anything really worth defending yourself with was not easily concealed. Licensing of concealed carry then amounted to letting the gov’t know that you had legitimate intentions, no longer presumably indicative of criminal intent _if_ you could show suitable paperwork on demand.

Years later, the licensing process has completely reversed the presumptions: concealed carry is the norm, to the point that society at large presumes _any_ visible gun is possessed for evil purposes.
