So true. My mother left me alone on an incline in a standard shift without the emergency brake on. I pulled it into neutral and it rolled into the road. Some teenagers pushed it back into the parking space, then told on me! This was after I chocked a cousin using power windows when an aunt left 5 kids in an unattended station wagon with the ignition turned on.

Choking the cousin made me laugh out loud. Did you get into trouble?

I broke the power windows on my dad’s Cadillac Eldorado when they left us unattended one time. When he was in the car, he would never let me play with them, so when he left us in the car to go pick up some dinner, I seized the opportunity to fiddle with them, and sure enough, the motor burned out.

There we were, stuck in a convertible with a window stuck down, in Chicago in December, during a snowstorm. Boy was my dad pissed!

6. IGNORED AND UNATTENDED ON THE REGULAR

When I was about 4 years old we were camping with a bunch of my Dad’s siblings and their kids at a big reservoir in Kansas. Our car was parked on a big hill up above the swimming beach where all of the moms and kids (my dad and uncles were fishing elsewhere)were swimming and sunbathing (and in the mom’s case smoking and drinking Old Milwaukee). I wandered away and went up the hill to our old Dodge. It had the pushbutton transmission on the dash. I was obsessed with the car radio and apparently started pushing the buttons on the transmission and got the car into neutral. The car rolled down the hill, narrowly missing running over my mom and Aunt Lois and went into the lake. My older brother (now deceased God rest his soul)pulled me out of the car as it filled up with water. I still hear about that one from my surviving relatives at the family reunions.....
