Our typical grade school lunch menu:

Monday: Lasagna
Tuesday: Hamburgers
Wednesday: Pizza
Thursday: Tacos
Friday: Salisbury steak (yuck)

In the late 70’s I was in high school, and I wish that would have been our lunch menu.

Jimmy Carter bailed out the turkey farmers, and we had some sort of reconstituted, deep-fried breaded turkey product at least three times per week.

left out Beanie Weenies, Surf & Turf (still have no idea what the “Surf” part was!) and loads of Tater Tots!

Really? We always had fish sticks on Fridays because of the Catholics. I loved them - plus all that other food you mentioned. In the 60s, school food was actually food.

I went to grade school in the 60s. IIRC, the menu ran like this:

Monday: Soggy Noodley Stuff
Tuesday: Soggy Noodley Stuff
Wednesday: Soggy Noodley Stuff
Thursday: Soggy Noodley Stuff
Friday: Soggy Noodley Stuff

It explains why most of us had items called "Lunch Boxes":
