The high diving board at the local pool is now gone. It was a rite of passage for my kids.Yep! Conquered many fears jumping from the high dive into to the (14') deep-end of the pool. I used to try and test myself by swimming all the way down and sitting on the bottom.
These days the diving boards are all gone and the pools are so shallow that kids risk serious injury by diving into them.

I tried a fifth in 1968. Smirnoff, as I recall. Passed out on the roof of my friend's apartment complex. His Dad wouldn't let me stay. My friend had to call my brother to come get me and bring me home.
My brother, who at the time was a sailor in the Navy, was so proud of his teenage sibling (it's a Navy thing).
Yes, I know you were talking about a different "fifth"... :-)
