My township only has about 2000 people in it and we had 5 full time cops and no reserves. They were good enough guys and never caused any problems but crime is nearly non existent here and we just couldn’t justify the expense.

By law we have to contract with the county Sheriff but they don’t come out here unless they’re called. I personally haven’t seen one here in town since last fall.

I have property in a small town in Illinois ,, 850 people ,,, one fulltime cop ,, no crime ... every situation is different but this should be the norm unless you have have a population predisposed to criminal acts ... excessive numbers of police means they MUST find crime even if it isn’t there or engage in money making activities (usually traffic fines) to justify their existence.
