I just finished reading a couple of biographies of John Wayne. He was in the same boat, what with ex-wives and children from two marriages and some bad investments/investment managers. Also, in his day, he was in a high tax bracket and lost a lot of money to the IRS. Duke worked up until almost his death simply to earn money. That's why some of his late 60's/early 70's movies are sort of generic cookie-cutter "John Wayne movies" (Chisum, The Undefeated, Cahill, The Train Robbers, etc); they were made to pay the bills. His quality films from that period (True Grit, The Cowboys, The Shootist) are the ones produced by someone other than Wayne's own production company.

Apparently William’s had issues with most of the roles he took on...but then considering his personal issues I'd expect they too played into the equations of how he saw himself in these roles. Changing wives as he did roles he played likely didn't help his view of life either. Seems he had a difficult time accepting or finding contentment with his lot in life no matter which direction it went or that he took it.

Depression or bipolar disease (which might be the more correct diagnosis in his instance) are real diseases. The diseased organ is the brain. As with other diseased organs, all the money in the world (or lack, thereof) may make little difference in their resolution (or lack, thereof). Too often after hearing about suicide the media and lay people look for “explanations.” More often than not there are none. He was sick. He succumbed to his illness.

These movie stars take their jobs too seriously. Jason Robards said “All you have to do is memorize your lines, show up on time and hit your mark.” It ain’t rocket science.

Lots of people likely aren’t always thrilled about getting out of bed every day to feed their families and pay their bills. Welcome the the world.

The ex-wives and their huge alimony checks killed this guy.
It amazes me that women are always demanding to be treated "equally" with men but on the other hand they demand to be financially supported by men. It's not like these women were Donna Reed "housewives" either, so the man could build a career - they had servants and whatnot catering to them during the marriage and contributed nothing to Robin's career. They basically leeched off of him, golddiggers that they are.
