Exactly, that “just so story” doesn’t prove common descent any more than it proves a common design. I could create a chart with pictures of similar automobiles and how their parts gradually changed over time, but that would not prove the later vehicles evolved from the earlier ones.

It is amazing what "Artist's conceptions" can create. Some of these have different numbers of chromosomes, and no one has ever demonstrated how one species suddenly gains or loses chromosomes to become something else.

Even the 'proof' offered by H8 says, "In fact, none of the individual animals on the evogram is the direct ancestor of any other, as far as we know."
