This is about a new device named the WarKitteh collar, a name which the Viking Kittys might approve of. Who knew that cats could be so useful -and sneaky?

If I tried to put that collar on my cat the thing getting hacked would not be Wi-Fi.

Depends on the cat, really. Most of the ones I’ve known, while being curious and adventuresome, are generally relaxed about most things.

Someone wired up a simple wifi snooper and stuck the thing around the cat’s neck.
Cat strolls through neighborhood and logs all the local wifi networks looking for those with weak or no protection.
A cute cat hack...paging slings n arrows :-)

It also has a tiny GPS module so you can map the locations of hotspots found.

All contributions are for the current quarter expenses.
FReepathon day 40.
Two percent a day keeps the 404 away.

Someone could go router sniffing with the same equipment attached to a quadricopter drone and fly it all over the neighborhood.

Someone could just carry the equipment around the neighborhood themselves and find the Wi-Fi.

Drones are not exactly quiet. The vast majority of cats travel very quietly indeed, and generally do not arouse suspicions wherever they go.
Unless they go in a dog’s yard, sometimes.

Why expend all that effort when you can simply sit back and let the feline do all the work?

This is a hoot. Jack, your idea of using a quad-copter is liable to give google ideas. The could use their self-driving car testing program...

Indeed. Look how tiny the entire unit is -less than a dollar bill in size.
I am certain it could go even smaller if you placed both boards one over the other with smaller and shorter wires.
