I must have watched that video 50 times last night and I am pretty sure Tony did not even see him until the car in front of him slowed and turned down the track, if he let off the gas quickly the car would automatically veer right. I swear I can see him turn the wheel to the right after the front of the car passes Kevin Ward and he burps the gas trying to get the back of the car to spin away from Kevin, but its too late at that point. Its damn hard to spin a sprint car out to the right... All the cars went past about the same speed and line on the track and he kept walking down the track to where there was no room to get past him. Being a driver himself, he knows that car is not stopping on a dime... with Tony Stewart or any other driver driving it... I read numerous articles from every source I could find and one of the reports said that Tony had a go pro camera on his helmet... I think this would show exactly what Tony saw so hoping he did.
Watching the video again.

The kid was almost hit by the car before Stewart. Stupid move.
Yep thats what happened, but the circular firing squad witch hunters will not be deterred, they have to sacrifice somebody.
Its a Supermoon weekend, people will make emotional decisions that are being unusually and strongly influenced, and the young man made a poor one.
That cannot comprehend the car is wedge shaped, rear tires stick out further, its almost a miracle Tony was even able to make the rear try and skid to the LEFT and AWAY from the other guy, noooooo, they are on a witch hunt and have no idea what these cars can do, they think they can turn equally well left or right. WRONG
But they are right now putting more cotton in their ears and wearing darker glasses.
Very odd since the victim clearly saw the driver, in fact was pointing at the driver who was approaching, and was staring right at him as he defiantly approached the vehicle and appeared to possibly yelling and pointing right at it.
In addition, the vehicle just prior to the suspects vehicle was no where near in front of the suspect vehicle, and was clearly on the inside of the track, away from the front of the suspect vehicle.
