Good question. Not necessarily, though and here's why. It isn't so much where the ship is registered that determines risk, as its ports of call. If, for instance, a tanker loads in the Persian Gulf, and transits to the US directly, there is no exposure unless one or more crewmen were in West Africa recently or were visited by people from there during time in port. Same thing with freighters where the crews did not go ashore in the affected countries.

There would likely be significant economic impact on those nations suffering from ebola outbreaks, as ships which had been in those ports might not be allowed in ports elsewhere until the outbreak has burned out. That would amount to a trade moratorium, unless they first shipped cargoes by land or sea to other ports fro transshipment.

I am not sure how well that would play out.

Tampa Bay. Port of call for cruise ships who can fit under the Sunshine Skyway bridge and also for intl ships including Liberia. I wonder what Gov. Rick Scott has to say about Ebola. Neither he or candidate Crist for gov has said anything that I can recall, maybe I missed it.
