I believe we will reach the point (if we haven’t already) where fear of economic repercussions will outweigh medical prudence. These are poor countries, and even the wealthiest depend on trade with the West for technical expertise (Liberia and Nigeria with oil, for instance). Shutting down, even for a short time, will have tremendous economic impact.
I think that’s one reason that things have gotten so out of hand in WA. They have been reluctant to quarantine and enforce borders. For monetary reasons. It will get worse before it gets better.
