Well if that is the case then you would have a soap box to stand on. However, that is not the whole picture is it. Lets run through the numbers and get to some FACTS.
1) There are more than 100 strains of HPV
2) There are a little more than 30 of these that are transmitted by sexual activity
3) Of that 30, there are 10 strains that can, IN RARE CASES, lead to the development of cervical cancer.
4) of these 10 strains that cause cervical cancer, Gardisil only protects against 4 strains.
5) Further, these four strains to not cause all cervical cancers.
So the reality is, 70% of the 4% of all HPV viruses. So the REAL math is 0.028% of all HPV viruses.
And now for the rest of the story ...
99% of all cervical cancer is caused by HPV. Two of the 100+ forms of HPV (16 & 18) cause 70% of all cervical cancer. Two of the 100+ forms of HPV (6 & 11) cause 90% of all genital warts.
The Gardasil HPV vaccine protects against several high-risk strains of HPV, including types 16 & 18 and 6 & 11.
Thank you.
HPV strains 16 and 18 are responsible for 70% of all HPV caused cancers. The other oncogenic HPV viruses that are responsible for the remaining 30% are not as aggressive as those two strains. Sometimes, the less aggressive HPVs cause lesions that never develop into cancer.
The other two HPV strains in Gardisil (which are not in Cervarix) protect against HPV 6 and HPV 11, which are responsible for 90% of genital warts. Warts won’t progress to cancer, but they can cause some other problems... like blocking the urethra, which is a medical emergency.
I worked with a gynecologist on an HPV study once. She liked to show pictures. Pictures of HPV infected genitalia are not pretty.
