It gets better. Once hired, her supervisors will write evaluation reports with phrases like: “well respected by her peers,” “an outstanding individual with leadership potential,” “a role model for our young people.” And in time, she will be promoted over people who are more qualified physically and academically. She will think she did it on her own.

But the over-the-hill Doirin failed to meet the required time, taking more than 18 minutes to huff-and-puff her way across the finish line.

No problem. I'm sure the fire will give her extra time to rescue any babies from a burning building. If it doesn't, it just goes to show the fire dept is a construct of white privilege.
