"I wouldnt have taken him. Not because I dont believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldnt want to deal with all of it.
Its not going to be totally smooth things will happen.
That's what former NFL defensive back and head coach Tony Dungy told Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune when asked about the prospects for rookie defensive end Michael Sam. Of course, Sam is the league's first openly gay player, and though many league executives and players may feel exactly that way, Dungy may feel the courage to speak to his own views more convincingly. He's a deeply religious man with a desire to evangelize and help others in his own way -- he's written several best-selling books about those beliefs, and he speaks publicly quite often, aside and apart from his current position as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports.

Maybe they can hire Chris Klewe as their punter and Obama and Reggis will become season ticket holders.
The gay mafia is out in full force against Dungy. Absolutely absurd. Why would any team want to invite all of that attention for a guy who is a fringe player?
Wasn’t he also a seventh-rounder? Why bother—he’s not a standout on the field, clearly.
NBC will be on the horns of a dilemma. Could they work up the courage to fire a black man because of a gay man? On the diversity scale, which holds more weight? I’ll bet they wish this would all just go away, lol. Funny, really.
I am good friends with Coach Dungy. We texted one another about an hour ago. He is, without question, one of, if not the finest person, I have ever met in my life. I wish I was much more like him from a character standpoint. Truly a remarkable human being. I’ve never met anyone like him.
I have been in tough situations with him and his faith and steadfastness is remarkable. He treats everyone with remarkable respect. I would defend Coach Dungy to death. This stuff just ticks me off.
Ah yes training camp has started, now it’s going to be All Michael Sam, All the Time.
Wake me up when the regular season starts and Sam is gone (although there’s no way the Rams can cut him now).
Right now, gay many holds much more weight than black man.
He was selected with a throwaway compensation pick, sixth from dead last in the draft.
Goodell will never allow the Rams to cut Saint Sam this season. I am not sure if practice squad would be good enough for Goodell.
Thanks for your post, he’s always struck me as a fine man.
They say he didn’t raise his voice or swear when he was coaching. I’ve always liked him since hearing that.
What are the odds after he gets flushed that Sam winds up as an “analyst” commentator on network football broadcasts?
Or the Democrats will groom him for a political career.
I still think since the Rams want to move from St Louis, the NFL made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
When we were together recently someone asked him the last time he swore. He talked about a defensive huddle when he was a defensive coordinator for the Vikings being the last time he swore. It was hilarious. Tony doesn’t say it with any pride. That’s just who he is. Just a really special guy.
The thing that disappoints me is that he is sensitive and he will take these criticisms personally, even though he knows he didn’t do anything wrong.
Sports Illustrated’s nonstop coverage of all things homosexual ended my reading of their rag for good. It was just over the top with instructing athletes what they could not say, the fawning over the homo-izing of the Olympics, never ending.
He’s from Texas, right? He can be in Abortion Barbie’s cabinet LOL
And if black man is a true Christian then that will wipe out all his black points anyway.
I was a Steeler draft choice in 1978, and while I didn’t get too far at all, I did have a chance to talk with Tony a couple times, and I couldn’t agree with you more.
Even as a young 20-something, he was a righteous man who had that certain specialness about him, and I was always happy to see him do well over the years.
