Big fan here, too.
I read his biography (Raisin’ Cain).

I admired him for giving up the fame and glory of rock and roll to return to older blues - simply because he enjoyed the genre so much.

A lot of folks would have stuck with what brought in the big bucks regardless of what they really wanted to play.

You get it. Johnny wasn’t about fame and fortune so much as he was about his chosen style of music. Always one of my favorite stringers
