Germany won the World Cup. Host Brazil won a world of new friends.
The now four-time champions, the first European team to win the World Cup on Latin American soil, earned the honor of lifting the most recognized trophy in sports with a tooth-and-nail 1-0 victory in a final as terrifically entertaining as the tournament itself.
For a 32-day showcase of football at its best, the winning goal was beautifully appropriate. Mario Goetze controlled the ball with his chest and then volleyed it into the Argentine goal, making difficult skills look so simple. Scored in the 113th minute, the mortal blow left Argentina too little time to recover.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, sitting in the VIP section, waved a clenched fist as Goetze celebrated. When referee Nicola Rizzoli blew the final whistle a few minutes later, Vladimir Putin reached across and shook Merkel's hand. The Russian president's country hosts the next World Cup in 2018.

After thinking about it, why is football the world’s most popular sport? I think because it transcends divisions of humanity. People of every age, sex, race, income and culture play it and passing the ball is a universal language. No matter where you are, barriers to human interaction to magically disappear; no translation is needed to get others to play with you even if they don’t understand you. No other sport readily gets people together from all over the world to enjoy it together with heart and feeling.
Team Germany’s victory in a word, is not the triumph of one country; its the triumph of humanity and we can all relate to the field of dreams stuff that produce the greatest talent on earth. On Sunday, Mario Gotze’s World Cup winning goal inspired a child somewhere to do the impossible. Football has that kind of power to inspire, impress, entertain and delight.
For all that and more, the host nation of Brazil has graced us with stunning sights and unforgettable memories. There will never be a tournament quite like this one even though there are surely many more of them to come. And the “beautiful game” is more popular than ever.

that said, this article and its celebritard snob panorama is more boring than a soccer game. The nationalist jingoism is also annoying.
Why? A country is not allow to celebrate hard work, valor and courage? This football game offered it in spades.
It takes nothing away from what we saw to know that in life winning can be a truly satisfying feeling. My late mother - I thought of her when the final whistle blew.
She never lived to see a united Germany but I know this day would have been a special one for her. I think if that’s true for people I love I miss so deeply in my life, there surely are moments in life worth savoring.
Team Germany put on a stellar performance and no question, in all respects it was a deserved victory. For that I congratulate them for true spirit and living up to the ideals of sportsmanship.
We rarely get to see other people truly do their best and that’s also I think why people are taken in by what this team accomplished. Its extraordinary and we won’t see a sight like this for a long time to come.
Some like the suspense of a Hitchcock thriller where there is only one murder, others prefer the body count of a Quentin Tarantino flick...

Technically no. True socialist countries do not allow private industry...like the old Soviet Union and China. They might call themselves socialist and tax the bejeesus out of their citizens to fund socialist-type programs, but a person can still get rich from capitalist practices in Germany and other high-tax countries.
I don't know where the exact line is between a real socialist state and a capitalist state, but liking to have a drink now and then does not make you a drunk. However, if you get drunk everyday, you become an alcoholic. Germany hasn't quite crossed that line yet.

I didn’t watch any soccer and I didn’t read any sports stories (I normally don’t read about or watch sports.)
I’m not sure how the existence of the world cup caused you any inconvenience.
