Another BIG advantage to sticks is that if the battery goes dead or the starter craps out (I have experienced both many times over the years, especially in my wild and ragged yute!), you can always push or coast 'em and pop the clutch, even in reverse, to get the engine going. As long as you have gas and a downhill slope or a push, you're good for go, no jumper cables, tow trucks, or mechanics required! {^)

One of my daughters room mates just bought a car with a 5 speed. I took her out the other day to teach her some of the finer points, like roll starting and shifting without clutching. She’s obviously been practicing cause I heard she just taught that skill to her older brother.
