Drummer Tommy Ramone, the last member of the original 1970s punk band the Ramones, died Friday of cancer, according to Variety. He was 62.
The Ridgewood, Queens, resident had been in hospice and suffering from bile duct cancer, the trade publication reported.
Ramone, born in Budapest, Hungary, was a drummer and producer who performed on the groundbreaking bands first three albums, Variety said.
Of course. Music is a subjective medium. I have a little experience in music as a lead singer and drummer and rhythm guitar player, so I state things as I see them...as do we all. Unfortunately, sometimes it comes out too strong because I so believe in melody.
I grew up listening to Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Strauss, et al. I also grew up listening to the Crystals, Ronettes, Dion, Smokey, Supremes and all of Motown. I know melody when I hear it. I never heard a melody from the Ramones, but I'm open to hearing such. Probably tuned them out because of their thrash playing. Give me a song to listen to.
Sorry to have P'd you off.
No. But others will as the weekend progresses. Best of luck.
Okay. I will turn it up.
Uncool, Jenny. I was listening to Rock n' Roll as far back as 1955, probably way before you were born. I've tried to be courteous and reasonable, but you have to go there? Really? But then, this is what happens when discussing favorites of any medium. Want to talk about the Housewives of Who Gives a Sh*t? Sure I can make some statement you don't like about Clara.
My late ex-boyfriend loved the Ramones. They always remind me of him blasting them in his car and singing along. Sorry for your loss and sad about Tommy- too young.
Yes, Supertramp was over-produced as was ELO and others like Styx. Although, I liked them at the time, I never listen to them anymore even though I have the CD’s. Agree that The Clash and was raw like a garage band. They kinda held my interest for awhile.
Thanks.
I probably look like an idiot jabbering to myself and laughing when that song comes on.
But those were fun times that I sorely miss.
Sorry about the ex, hope the memories for you are fun ones at least.
They influenced quite a few bands that came after.
very sad........don’t forget Joey Ramone was a true conservative when he died way too young....the Ramones were great because they made punk mainstream...the original album was recorded in less than 24 hours and was very raw...their best effort...any teenager with a leather jacket was a Ramone for a couple of years
I'm thinking more Tom Jones...har!
Just FYI, I'm listening to Gustav Holst's 'Venus' right now.
I saw the Ramones as the warmup act for Patti Smith back in 78 or so.
Lots of fun.
Good for you. Love the classics. So sorry I've wasted my time and diminishing energy and life (according to my doctor) to argue melody with people who just don't get the concept. I should have been talking to you all along.
Funny thing is while there are many wonderful classics out there, I always come back to Johahn Strauss. "Tales of the Viena Woods" is the most beautiful composition in my heart.
Never heard of the Exploited, but the Dead Kennedys had some interesting stuff. I'm open to anything that provides a melody and cool chord arrangements.
I'm a big fan of Soundgarten, old Creed, and Nickolback.
So anyone who wants to say I'm lock in the days of yesteryear back when with the Stones. Just know I'm trying to get up to speed.
I can’t think of a single song by the Ramones. This is either because they are never played on the stations I listen to, or because I am simply horrible when it comes to remember group and song names.
I can go to youtube to see which it is. I love youtube!
RIP, TR.
Seemed like a nice guy.
Three of them died of cancer. Odd.
Very well put. I don’t understand any kind of “hate” for music. Just don’t listen is you don’t like it. I don’t like most country music, rap, pop like Brittney Spears type stuff. I have a very effective way of avaoiding it. Obviously, some people out there like it. Good for them.
I liked the Ramones and other similar bands for a while. Mostly because my next door neighbor and all her cute friends liked punk and I was trying to hook up with as many of them as possible. Probably the best reason to like a certain kind of music...
Dead Kennedys were heavily influenced and inspired by The Ramones .
Oddly enough , the only Ramones LPs I bought were the first 3 with Tommy on drums !
Saw them live twice : once in 1978 in a small Hartford , CT club with Magazine ( Howard Devoto of Buzzcocks fame ) ; and again around 1980 at my Alma Mater UCONN at an outside concert . They kicked ass . No messing around in between songs - 1 - 2- 3-4 !
