... attacking impotence was highlighted by a 73rd-minute free kick by Messi from the right corner that sailed over everybody and out of play
The Argies have been having a hard time finding the net. One could argue they’re one of the weaker teams to reach a final. OTOH, they beat the Dutch, whom I thought were the team to beat. One game and anything can happen. The Germans have ‘deep depth’ and the Argies have that Americas thing going for them. Should be a good game. I’ m in Italy - if Germany wins I should be able to hear the cheering from here (was even thinking about flying up to Berlin for the final).
At least we don't live in North Korea.
Spain, 2010 World Cup Champion, 2008, 2012 Euro Cup Champions, matches from 2010
Switzerland 1 0 Spain
Spain 2 0 Honduras
Spain 2 1 Chile
Spain 1 0 Portugal
Spain 1 0 Paraguay
Spain 1 0 Germany
Spain 1 0 Netherlands
1998 Spain
Spain 6 1 Bulgaria, Spain does not advance out of the group stage.
1982 Hungary
Hungary 10 1 El Salvador
Hungary 1 4 Arentina
Hungary 1 1 Belgium
Hungary does not advance out of the group stage.
It's obvious that Argentina really can't count on Messi to win it for them but as a team, they still have a chance.
It’s obvious with the Hungary El Salvador game, we are talking about a team of much lesser caliber vs. Brazil though when Spain defeated Bulgaria 6-1, you could make a case Bulgaria were the semi-finalists in 1994.
This has been a very good tournament with a few glaring weaknesses such as how Brazil was treated and might not have even gotten out of their initial group stage without a few breaks. It was a great goal by David Luiz vs. Colombia, one of the best of the tournament.
I post this story because it seems this fellow may have been heading for Brazil, we hear all of those stories, so and so drove from San Francisco to Rio De Janeiro. Well, this is a bit of the other side of the story. Rest in Peace, Tragedy. The Daily Mail story says he already had a pistol pulled on him in Venezuela so maybe he was heading back. It seems one story says he was going to go to the World Cup. Not something I'd do. He's been missing since January it sounds like.
Stuart Robson? Is that the color analyst on these games?? He’s okay, kind of odd to hear his accent though for whatever area of England that is. Geordie??
3 goals for 3rd place, Bronze!

As Ruud says, something to be very proud of nonetheless. Congrats Netherlands, well done all-the-same. USA be very happy if they'd gotten 3rd, to Holland, I know, some don't get excited.
Bronze Medal
Germany definitely deserve this win should they get it, they’ve worked hard, have had the desire and hunger, have been technically proficient. They certainly deserve their accolades.
All that can be said is Netherlands also proved Brazil were a bit of a paper tiger.
I would have been shocked if Brazil won the other day, I will be surprised if Argentina wins but I think they will make a game effort of it.
Germany is a bit of the team the way Spain was in 2010.
Brazil can get the monkey off its back of being the team to beat even since they won it with Pele. That’s a lot of pressure.
It seems that Germany has tried to win every game, and Argentina to not lose any game.
I picked Germany previous to the tournament and still do. I’d like to see Germany win and Klose get the winning/go-ahead goal.
That’s an interesting stat about 24 years, Brazil won in 1970 and next in 1994, Italy won in 1982 and then in 2006.
And Germany won it in 1990 but Low said he's not thinking about Numerology any.
All in all both teams, including Argentina are very sportsmanlike teams, good work ethic, for the most part, no cynical play, no dirty play.
