Congrats! I stopped running when I left the Army...I hate running. I need to get back to my exercise regimen of walking 5-9 miles, 3-4 times per week, and 50 pushups a day.
Also need to get back to my "beans and greens diet" (Joel Fuhrman - Eat to Live), now that I'm back from vacation.
Two months ago, I celebrated my 60th birthday with a 15 mile walk along the Trinity River (Campion Trail, Irving).
This "planning to grow old" is horse$hit. I've got a 12 YO son and 4 YO grandson to keep up with.
I’m still scoring Excellent (90+) on my Air Force PFT and beating a lot of the kids (captains and majors), after 4 knee surgeries and a shoulder surgery. I’m 56 and went to my orthopod last week to see if it was time for a knee replacement. He said, “Nah, let’s give you some injections and see if we can get you to 60 first”. I’ll take it. I swim, bike and run every week and do body weight calesthenics.
One question, did you ever see or meet a runner with upper body strength or mass? I haven’t.
Glad to know someone else hates running. I’m always glad I did it when it’s over. When I hear people say “ oh, I love running”, I wonder if I’m the only one who hates it.
Same here, but I had my doc change my profile to the 2 1/2 mile walk due to disc problems for the last few years. That all went away after I retired, got away from behind a desk and lost 30 lbs down into the 170s.
I still walk 2 - 2.5 miles in the hills here with the dog guiding the way. My BP is lower than it has been the past 10 years. Resting pulse is about 55 - 60 and BP is 110/65 and has been as low as 92/52 early in the morning.
