Carrion is one of six singles who agreed to legally marry a stranger for the new show “Married at First Sight,” premiering Tuesday at 9 p.m. on FYI (formerly Bio).

The extreme social experiment uses four experts — a sexologist, spiritualist, psychologist and sociologist — to create three perfect couples based on scientific matchmaking.

Until the success of marriage (divorce) rate exceeds 50%, this may not be a bad proposition.

The divorce rate has never approached 50%. That's one of those stats that someone made up and it just gets repeated over and over.

“We have the opportunity to match people with a person who complements them, as well as is similar in important ways,” said Dr. Pepper Schwartz...

I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper,
She's a Pepper, we're a Pepper,
Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too?
Be a Pepper. Drink Dr Pepper.

even today a lot of Indian marriages are based on this. I mean there is some interaction, but mostly the parents want to make sure your not some loser, that you have a job , good family history etc... like you said good and bad.

I have several acquaintances who are Hindu. It's striking that the one love match has worked out well and the children are a success. The arranged marriage is a disaster, and the kid is jailbait, which is unusual for a Hindu family. Then again, this is just anecdotal.

I think people should "arrange" their own marriages; courting seriously with an eye to marriage, and looking at those important marital issues before getting sexally involved. That is what well-off people always did before the advent of birth control and "free" sex (trust me; every fig leaf has a price tag).

Being married to an Indian, love marriage, I have noticed a few things. Most of the first generation rich go that way by hard work, but the kids are given nearly everything. I do not think they have that same entrepreneurial spirit their parents have.

My wife’s sister is arraigned marriage, she had tried to find a partner on her own and didnt work out. the guy she is married to now, Arraigned, is just the best guy i know, hard working, loving, kind... great father. So i guess it just depends... btw they are Catholics... not that it really matters but her family is VERY religious.

More dumb ass reality shows that are anything but reality.

<><><><><

Cheap to produce and people watch them. Why? I have no idea.

the commercials on tv seem to let me know that the success of duck dynasty is spawning a whole new genre of redneck/hillbilly reality shows.

Great. so the rednecks go ‘hell yea!’ and the non-redneck population goes ‘I told you they were nothing but a bunch of dumba$$ hicks out in the sticks’.

Ok, I can believe that.

So then, what is it in actuality?

I think the RCC does a good job with its pre-marital classes. That is where the Protestant churches have fallen down, big time.

What a truly appalling concept. It makes a complete mockery of marriage and for what? Money? Sixty seconds of fame on some unwatched cable channel?

Not being a Catholic it was a different experience... I had to “convert”... the process was interesting to say the least... i thought the questions were strange, Had I ever sinned... duh!

I also had to “gift” a bottle of scotch and a microphone for the church... i didnt mind. :)
