Check out “The Unforgiven” which probably features Murphy's best performance (outside of “The Red Badge of Courage”) as a cattle rancher with cowardly tendencies. John Huston always cast him as a coward - using the brilliant technique of casting against type.

Eastwood puts Wayne in the shade, but the greatest western movie of all times, and will never be usurped is “LONESOME DOVE”. Tommy Lee jones was good but Duvall as Augustus McCrae was the greatest western figure of all times,....and I don’t want to hear anyone say otherwise. Accept it and move on. It is often called the Godfather of westerns.....and it is. So, now that we all agree on the obvious we can talk about what is really important,,,,,Lonesome Dove.
