Busy week. Haven't been on line much, barely had time to water the garden. Have to get out later and pull some weeds. I had a couple of sections that weren't planted, so the weeds started.
Have made some sort of sour dough bread every other day. Trying different recipes and techniques to see which we like best.
Have some nice medium size green tomatoes going, some peppers starting on the pepper plants, and some peas are still alive in the containers.
Have pulled most of the garlic. I did finally get some good size bulbs and I dried them in front of the fan, since it started raining shortly after they were pulled. I usually just let them lay on the wooden timbers at the edge of the garden for a while.
The washing machine sprang a leak, the dryer quit working, and the apartment washer quit right in the middle of a load. So I have done laundry the old fashioned way. Really got the muscles in my hands and fore arms a workout. Was able to dry them in the dryer, so I didn't have to hang a clothes line.
Repair man came and fixed the main washer and dryer. The apartment unit needs a new motor, but they have quit making the part, so that's it. The dryer still works, and the unit is attached together, so we probably won't replace it for a while.
I have some mystery plants coming up in the midst of the lettuce containers. Looks like a melon or squash vine. I'll be backtracking last week's thread to catch up on what I missed this week.
Hope everyone is doing well, and wishing you all a great weekend. God Bless
I am absolutely horrible at planting/spacing seeds, especially if they’re tiny and a lot of them are. If they’re too close together (which happens a lot), then I have a hard time bringing myself to thin out the plants. Sigh. My radishes aren’t that great because I didn’t thin them & if my onions were doing anything, they’d have the same problem.
Like a bolt out of the blue, it dawned on me that maybe I could make ‘seed tapes’ so I ‘binged’ the topic and came up with two decent links for starters. Reading the comments was instructive as well .... I think I’m going to try this out!
Make your own seed tapes:

I’m doing a fall garden so I’ll find out before next spring if it works for me or not.
I need some help with my garden.
It’s been doing beautifully. I have peas and beans climbing up a fence I plant them against. I’ve never had any trouble with animals bothering them. Until this summer.
I’ve seen a rabbit around (which I think is the culprit) and I know we have woodchucks.
I noticed that some of my peas first, and now the beans, have been dying. They both just started producing wonderfully and all of a sudden the leaves are wilting.
On further investigation, I noticed that the first 8 inches of the stems of the plants at ground level are missing. Some @*($&@ animals is eating the base of the stems up as high as it can reach.
Shooting them is out of the question here in town. We have a Have a heart trap for the squirrels that we are trying to eliminate. Our neighbor has caught 3 woodchucks so far but I know there’s more.
What’s the best way to 1) animal proof the garden, and 2) bait the traps to get rid of the vermin?
