"So is a bull. So is a mule. So is a stallion. So is a boar. What happens when a three year old wanders off and gets in with one of these? Probably nothing,"

That depends on whether the bull, mule, stallion or bore is dangerous, and decent parents don't allow small kids to "get in with" them. If such an animal hurts a child, an adult will likely go to prison for it.

"and you know why? Because the dogs are there."

Always? That's not true. And many dogs can't be trusted around kids.

"That same autonomy that you decry is the very same autonomy which will protect that child unto death, until a man can come to fetch her."

The "autonomy" behind the attack on the little girl mentioned in the article above this thread--like large numbers of other kids who were mauled or murdered by dangerous dogs and their owners.

"No, what is a shame is that folks grow so far from the land that they can't understand what a dog is for."

Dogs are for barking as security alarms, or herding cattle or yaks. Dangerous dogs aren't reliable enough to use for enforcing security. They don't know how to legally escalate defense, when a human is attacked. Bad dogs only attack with deadly force.

They are all dangerous.

I don't care how decent a parent you are, such things happen.

If such an animal hurts a child, an adult will likely go to prison for it.

No, that is unlikely. It is terrible, a damn shame, and all that, but such a thing would be considered a horrible accident.
