Up here folks use a gus style because it sheds water, and a wide brim that winds up flat, bent down front and rear... It's the snow and the rain that shapes them that way. I'd imagine that them taco-style sides y'all have is because of prairie winds... Same with the curled sides they do in OK and KA...
