Indeed, the greater cheek by jowl people live, the more local rules are required. As I said, local laws should fit the local circumstances.
But the yahoos with pitbulls who end up killing toddler family members are ignorant and despicable, and I’m fine with laws that limit family members taking such chances with their offspring.
Families are responsible for their offspring-it is not up to big brother to decide such details as what pets, guns, livestock or other such things people with kids should have. Many of my neighbors who have kids also have horses, donkeys, etc which can trample and kill even a careless adult by just rearing up and striking them.
I don’t see any of my neighbors leaving kids unattended with any animals, including dogs-they aren’t likely any smarter than a city dweller-just more used to animals and what they can do. If they do something stupid and something bad happens, then the fault is theirs, as are the consequences, such as a lawsuit-no nanny law required...
